Transport Infrastructure In Rwanda Essay

In the current times, the transport infrastructure in Rwanda is a direct consequence of 1994 war and genocide. The inopportune incidents of the mentioned year inflicted significant damage to the country’s economic infrastructure. Nevertheless, this state of affairs was further exacerbated by the institutional problems in Rwanda, including “the absence of a clear vision for the sector, institutional weaknesses, as well as the absence of a strategy” (“Rwanda National Construction Industry Policy” 2009, i). Now-a-days, the Rwandan government is involved in the promotion of initiatives for local contractors’ training and also for the creation of an environment that is empowered in transport and housing sectors. For the same reasons, it is making sure that the local firms increase their participation for the management and development of infrastructure. The government institutions involved in Rwandan transport infrastructure are Rwanda Transport Development Agency (RTDA), Rwanda Utility and Regulatory Authority (RURA), Rwanda Civil Aviation Authority (RCAA), and Rwanda National Police (“Public Transport Policy and Strategy for Rwanda” 2012, 46).
The government of Rwanda is making considerable progression following a coherent policy for the development of transport infrastructure. This is because the inadequate provision of sufficient transport services has proved to be a barrier in the growth of the country economically. For this reason, Rwandan government has developed and pursued an integrated transport service for its economic growth. Furthermore, a technical committee has been constituted by the Government of Rwanda for the assessment of the current problems in the public transport problems. The purpose of this committee is to evaluate the existing service system and recommend remedial measures accordingly (“Public Transport Policy and Strategy for Rwanda” 2012, ii). In short, Rwanda is making consistent progress in the development of transport infrastructure for the growth of its tumbling economy (Klingebiel 2013, 58).
