According to Booker T’s first chapter of the book, getting educated entailed acquiring skills to propel one to live a happier life compared to slavery. During this period, it was almost unthinkable that a slave would be educated; hence it was a big call for Booker T to receive such education and rise through the ladder to become such an important person in the society. Important to note is that slaves that sought education during this period were not treated kindly. Instead, they were subjected to forced hard labor to disrupt their intentions of acquiring such education. From a personal perspective, knowing the historical aspect of African-Americans’ struggles in the area of education has played a significant role in motivating me to do my best. In particular, it has influenced my decision-making and understood that despite our origins and backgrounds, education plays a significant role in creating equality all over the world.
In life, different people have different ways of spending their wealth. Whereas some invest, others prefer to wear theirs, depending on the motives of each category of people. Whichever the case one decides to follow, greed and materialism can only result in debts and misery. In life, my financial strategy is to make more than I can spend in a given duration. My goal as an adult is to have a successful family that never lacks. In essence, I want to be rich instead of looking rich.
