1) What actions would you recommend John take with the US Congress? The actions that one would recommend John take with the US Congress entails conducting a more comprehensive evaluation of the root causes of the consecutive losses and to take urgent action to circumvent further losses.
2) How can the USPS compete with the likes of FedEx and UPS given the age and historic nature of many of their building? The USPC can compete with FedEx and UPS through streamlining of its operations and determining which assets are contributory to financial profits. Historic building could be strategically turned into museums or landmarks that generate revenues. Likewise, USPS should focus on its core competencies and strengths, as well as address evident weaknesses and threats. The thrust of focusing into complete automation, investment in technology that monitors and facilitates delivery of mails or packages, are of paramount importance. USPC should focus on efficiency in their supply chain as well as make necessary improvements in logistics to keep abreast with the changing needs and demands of the times.
3) Are there other market segments or technologies that USPS should consider? USPS could consider market segments or niches that are not being appropriately and effectively served by FedEx and UPS.
