Water Quality: Recreational Water System Essay Examples
Water is one of the most basic needs of a person to live. It is used in various life aspects such as cooking, cleaning, and most importantly, drinking. However, some parts of the world lack this basic need despite having water as three-fourths of the Earth’s composition. In fact, according to the website Unwater.org (2013), there are 783 million people who lack access to adequate and clean water. This is also because eighty-five percent of the world’s population is living on dry lands. In response to this increasing demand in water, recreational water use has been developed and implemented to different places. But, certain risks arise from this, not only from recreational, but also from drinking water.
The most commonly linked disease to the use of contaminated water is the propagation of different bacteria. One of which is Escherichia coli, or E. coli. The contamination of this bacterium may have originated from inadequately treated water coming from wildlife habitats, agricultural excess, on-site septic systems, or wastewater treatment facilities. When the number of E. coli goes beyond the allowed level in waters used for recreation, facilities like swimming pools, fishing areas, beaches, or ponds may close (Lewis, 2014). In developing countries where treatment of water is not as well run as those from developed countries, gastrointestinal-related diseases are more apparent.
In building infrastructures that are important to the development of water supply in countries such as Belize, proper environmental planning should always take place first. Waste management should be strictly applied, so that the lack for clean water will not worsen. For now, the use of septic tank system and the well-managed sewage system helps in the treatment of water in the country. This system may also work well on other countries that needs clean water.
