What is Kant’s notion of personhood, and how does he get there? Can you relate to it? Why/why not?
Kant opines that humans are different from other animals based on three things; the ability to reason, human, knowledge, and the moral duty. Kant analyzed the abilities of humans as opposed to the rest of things, and concludes that only humans can reason, have knowledge, and moral duty upon each other. I can identify with this thinking since I have moral duty towards others, can reason, and make choices based on my knowledge.
Kant claimed that enlightenment is the ability of man to liberate him from self-imposed nonage. Kant asserted that such is not because of lack of knowledge, but because of the laziness and cowardice to use one’s mind to reason without been guided by others.

What is the “I” for Descartes? Is it one or many? Is it stable or changeable? How does he know?
The “I” in Descartes is used as a representative of humans as a single entity. In this case, it can be argued that the “I” is plural. One can tell this since; he refers to the human body, and the human nature in many times both of which are universal, i.e. the body of any other human being is the same as any other in so far as the nature is concerned.
b. How does doubt play a role in self-formation for both Butler and Descartes?
The basic role of doubt is to first put everything in doubt and advance from such ground and finally defeat skeptics. Anything that can survive such extreme skeptical approach must be indubitable, and thus can be used as knowledge or the truth.
