Introduction

Edward Murrow had a courageous and dedicated attitude towards news broadcasting. He is remembered for having invented correspondent broadcasting. In the height of the 2nd world war, he had the courage to fly during bombing campaigns and broadcast live events of the ongoing war to millions of Americans back at home. Broadcasting of war events developed emotional and political views among the masses in American households (Parcell et al 243).
Through Murrow’s war broadcasts, Americans had a chance to experience the live events of the war that devastated many nations and instilled fear amongst people of different races. Back at home, Americans were waging war amongst themselves on racial backgrounds. Live broadcasts and improved technology made it easy for Edwards broadcasts reach as many homes as possible. This developed a sense of unity amongst Americans of different races who joined the military in the bid to serve and defend their country.
On the social scene, Americans were empowered with enough information that shaped their views on global affairs, and this gave way to new political and social reforms. Murrow`s live broadcasts created nationalism amongst Americans who were divided on racial lines at home but fighting together at the war front for freedom and democracy.
Edward recruited other journalists who joined soldiers leaving for away and home battlefields to bring a more extensive coverage of the events on the war front to Americans at the comfort of their leaving rooms. Murrow placed journalists at all fronts of the war, and this made it possible for a wider coverage of events at the war.
The deadly attack by Japan on the Pearl Harbor in Hawaii led President Roosevelt to declare war on Japan; Americans were following these events back at their homes. Roosevelt mobilized the public to get support to join the 2nd world war through the media. Murrow`s broadcasts played a great role to get the people’s attention and support President Roosevelt initiative to join the allied forces into the war. Americans were able to follow the events of the war through correspondent broadcasting an initiative of Edward Murray until the surrender of Japan that marked the end of the war.
Through Murrow’s coverage of the World War II events, Americans felt the need to be united and join hands together to fight and secure their nation. The coverage therefore acted like an ignition that ignited more and more Americans to join the war.
